Giveaway from Mary Morris Jewelry (closed)

It’s time for a new giveaway!
This giveaway is sponsored by Mary from Mary Morris Jewelry on Etsy.

I love Mary’s jewelry style, and I’m very happy she is joining my blog for this awesome giveaway!
I asked Mary a few questions about her and her jewelry …

Hi Mary! Tell us a bit about yourself …

My name is Mary Morris.  I have been with my wonderful supportive husband, Dennis, for 26 years.  We have 2 sons, Colin, 25, and Kyle, 22 and three large Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.  I still live in the same SE Washington state community that I grew up in.

During my day job, I work as a merchandiser putting out books and magazines in stores.  I, also, work a few hours a week at a women’s clothing store at the mall.  It is my chance to get dressed up and have fun with great people, as well as getting a generous discount on my wardrobe.

Since the boys have finished college, I have been able to, just this month, cut back at work so I have more time to play with beads. I have always been a crafter, doing sewing, crocheting, scrapbooking. I love learning whatever the newest trendy craft is.  I like to keep my hands and mind busy.

When did you first start making jewelry?

It was probably about 2008, I had a new outfit and saw some beads that were perfect for making a bracelet and earrings.  I had cheap tools and lousy techniques, but it was fun.  As Mother’s Day 2009 rolled around, I asked my guys for beading classes at our wonderful local bead shop.  A few hundred dollars later, I had more beads, new tools and better techniques and it was still fun.

What is your favorite piece of jewelry?

The pieces that mean the most to me are those I’ve made as gifts for my mom.  They are like treasures.  She so enjoys wearing a piece I’ve made and does so almost every day.  My parents have been extremely supportive, not only of Mary Morris Jewelry, but of my entire life.  There is just so much love put into each bracelet she wears on her wrist and hopefully they remind her how much I love her.

What is your favorite material/technique to work with?

I enjoy working with a variety of materials, commonly jasper, agate and glass, but I always need some sparkle.   I love all the colors that you can find in a single bead like crazy lace agate or silver leaf jasper.  I can take that strand and put it with a different accent color each time I make a new piece of jewelry.
I am also drawn to beads by their texture and weight.  I love the way one bead, like rose quartz, may feel cold, hard and solid and another like a pearl or shell is smooth, dreamy and organic.

One week I may work with glass pearls or fire polished glass, the next I am into agates and crystals.  There is such a variety of beads to work with that it can sometimes get dizzying, but I love it and I’m never bored.

What do you like/dislike about selling jewelry online?

I find it difficult to stop creating to take photos, edit photos and post listing.  It always seems to take so much time, but I’m getting better and faster.

On the other side of things, for me, Etsy and selling online is easy.  I can put as little or as much effort and time as I have available into Mary Morris Jewelry.  The more time I spend on my listings and quality photos, the more sales I see. It allows me to create and sell year around and not just at holiday bazaar season.

I also love the international aspects of Etsy.  I get so excited when I see that shopper in New Zealand or a blogger in Israel, for example, has been on my website.  My first sale outside North America, which was to Scotland, was an absolute thrill.

Etsy makes the world a smaller community.  I would never have had the opportunity to make jewelry for a bride in Colorado or a model in New York without Etsy and Mary Morris Jewelry.  It is a wonderful and unexpected experience.

Any tips for new artisans just starting out to sell online?

I did a lot of reading of the blogs on Etsy, gathering advice from seasoned sellers.  Then I had to determine what worked for me and my product.  I looked at many shops to see photography techniques and background choices.  Then I took lots of photos and kept my camera’s manual handy.  Take photos from different angles, for example, let the customer see the clasp of the necklace or the back side of the dress.  If I’m purchasing in a store, I pick up the item and check it out.   In an online store, you have to give those views through your photos.

How can people contact you?

I love hearing from people.  I am on facebook at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Mary-Morris-Jewelry/138803229490152?ref=ts .  They can reach me through conversations at www.MaryMorrisJewelry.Etsy.com or my email Mary.Morris.Jewelry@gmail.com

Any last words for our readers?

I never expected my life to take this path.  I have had to let myself relax, go with the flow and enjoy the journey.  I am learning a lot in the second half of my life and having so much fun.  Don’t miss an opportunity because it is unexpected.

And now for the giveaway!!!

You can win this fabulous set of earrings and bracelet!

These wonderful feminine earrings are made with Czech 3mm fire polished glass beads in medium aqua blue with an aurora borealis finish.  The beads are individually wire wrapped and gathered into a beautiful cascade. The cascade falls nearly an inch below the sterling silver french ear wire.

This matching bracelet sparkles with beautiful turquoise glass beads wrapped in silver plated floral bead caps.  I have added clear and aqua aurora borealis crystal to add plenty of bling.  The silver plated toggle clasp with a sweet heart finishes off the bracelet with an inside measurement of 7 1/2 inches.

Estimated value is $28
