Feature interview – Handmade Creations by Shelly

Today’s feature review is with Shelly from Handmade Creations by Shelly. Shelly makes Hand knitted & crochet ponchos, scarves, hats, gloves and accessories for children, teens and adults. I especially love her children’s ponchos, and was happy when she joined me in the “Blog Bash 2011” giveaway event last week.

When did you first start to knit and crochet?
When I was around 8 or 9 years old I sat behind my grandmother’s while they were knitting and crocheting and taught myself. One loved to knit while the and one loved to crochet. I loved watching them create beautiful items.

What is your favorite item (that you made)?
I love all of my Designer Items especially the very first felted tote bag that I made for myself. I was so concerned about the size since when you make a felted piece it is almost four times the final size. I carry my paperwork in it to all of my shows. I get so many wonderful compliments at every show.

What do you like/dislike about selling jewelry online?
I have found that there are more people selling online and you really have to continue to promote yourself to get noticed. I have also noticed how important your photos are. When I first started my shop didn’t look that good. Over the past year I have been devoting more time to my shop appearance.

Any tips for new artisans just starting to sell online?
Make sure that you take the time in the beginning to take great photos of your items. You really have to continue to put time into promoting your shop on a daily basis or else you will get lost with so many shops advertising online

How can people contact you? (twitter/blog/shop/email etc.)
Last words for our readers?
Good luck and wish you lots of success.
Thank you Shelly, it was a pleasure to feature your work!
