Feature interview – AAE Glass

Today’s feature review is with AAE Glass. They make beautiful fused glass decals, which are perfect for fused dichoric glass jewelry. I was happy when this shop joined me in the “Go International” giveaway event last month.

Tell us a little bit more about yourself …

I am fortunate enough to do what I love on a full time basis. I am passionate about my art, my customers and my business. This is my livelihood, so you can be assured that customer service is my number one priority.
Our studio is located in Cape Coral, Florida. We specialize in the latest glass techniques and offering the most unique supplies and workshops, resulting in fresh, cutting edge designs. Our studio techniques include, kiln formed glass, hand blown glass and lamp working. We are constantly attending glass artisan seminars, workshops and classes with master artisans to evolve our craft and offer the jewelry artist a unique medium to maximum their sales. Dichroic fused glass is our favorite medium; however, we are expanding into glass blowing and lamp working currently. We want to help grow the glass world as a whole!

When did you first start making jewelry?

I have been fusing glass for over 10 years and made it a full time business about 3 years ago. I am self taught and now I teach a sold out workshop called Extreme Fusing. I use techniques that are not taught anywhere else and I give 100% effort everyday of every workshop. You can see testimonials at AAEGlass.com.

What’s your inspiration?

We moved from Chicago to southwest Florida about 2 years ago and I have to say the sunsets down here have been a great inspiration. The ocean and Gulf of Mexico also provide breathtaking scenes.

What do you like/dislike about selling online?

The thing we love about selling online is the whole world is a potential customer. We regularly ship to Australia, United Kingdom, Canada, New Zealand and many other international locations. As I stated above, customer service is our number one priority. We have a very large reorder rate among the artists we work with. We also feature glass artists on our blog which increases traffic to their sites resulting in more sales.

Any tips for new artisans just starting to sell online?

The best advice I can give new artists is to take good notes. Being self taught, my notes are worth more than gold to me, even in this economy. Record temperatures, hold times, the exact glass you used, etc. Note everything. Other than that, keep an open mind and don’t get frustrated. Don’t be afraid to try something new, if it doesn’t work, try something else, eventually you will get what you want, just be patient.
